“Your Waves and Surging Tides Sweep Over Me” (Psalm 42: 7 NLT).
They are His Billows; His instruments; His agents; His resources; and He uses them in His pre-determined manner, with the goal of eternity and our ultimate good. Therefore, like the clay to the porter, which we are, we are to be passive, but active and compliant participants, otherwise we risk the possibility of being tossed away unto the dung hill and left useless! Like Prophet Jeremiah rightly noted, why should a mortal man struggle with and question h/her Maker? Reconcile yourself with your King and Maker, and save yourself from condemnation. His love; acceptance; and tolerance; are not to be taken as licence to act as if we own ourselves, our lives, or anything! We must stop playing God. We are “free to be me” only to the extent that we take our bearing and reference point for living from God our Maker; to whom we will give an account someday.
These qualities of God that are mentioned above, if well appreciated and put in the right perspective should humble us; make us appreciative; and in fact put us is a state of perpetual gratitude, being careful to ensure our accountability.
Yes, His billows may go all over us carrying us as if on eagle’s wings, to untold heights of satisfaction; fulfilment; success; glory; and our eventual destination – heaven. But they may also be His instruments of correction and discipline; because it is the child that the parent accepts and loves that is disciplined. And as the patriarch Job succinctly stated, shall we accept good and not bad from the Lord? Therefore, either way, His billows are for our good. And as someone noted: “The grandest character is grown in hardship.”
Therefore, my friend/reader, on which side of His billows are you at this moment? May I join the Apostle in encouraging and admonishing you to check and see if you are still in the faith? Take appropriate actions, especially the disposition of mind and attitude that puts the Lord and His glory first; in addition to the earnest expectation of His second coming, so that you can enjoy the workings of your Father, with His Billows all over you!
Have a God-Focused and Blessed day, Amen.
